The Wellness Model

The counseling profession is rooted in the wellness model which focuses on the process and autonomy rather than pathology. At FitPeaceByPeace, we help others to see themselves as whole, capable, and complete beings. We believe that humans are multi-dimensional and that all elements must be addressed when it comes to lasting health and well-being.

Holistic wellness takes a comprehensive snapshot and appreciates all the multifaceted areas of health. All aspects of a balanced life must be taken into account: physical, mental, emotional, relational, and spiritual. We use this holistic approach from a position of empowerment, providing education, perspective, resources, and insight along the way.

The wellness model does not simply dwell on symptoms---it focuses on the person beneath the problem. We believe that true healing is possible, and that you have the ability to live a meaningful life with psychological freedom and flexibility.

We believe it is necessary to explore the big questions that may be holding you back from truly experiencing all that life has to offer. Together, we can accept the past, find peace with the present, and place hope in a purposeful future.

The FIT Philosophy

Counseling Approach

We practice using an integrative therapeutic style grounded in the person-centered theory of Carl Rogers. Genuineness, empathy, and unconditional positive regard serve as the foundation of building a trustworthy, collaborative therapeutic relationship. Interventions from other counseling approaches are integrated thoughtfully to provide the best quality of care, utilizing concepts from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.

In addition, we practice from a trauma-informed lens while combining physiology concepts to better understand the messages that our brilliant bodies are trying to tell us. We view traumatic experiences from a holistic outlook and as fragmented pieces that are waiting to be reintegrated into your healing story. With influences from the work of Dr. Peter Levine and Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, we believe in the brain and physical body's unique teamwork in releasing trapped trauma and nervous system regulation.

"What is most personal is most universal."

-- Carl Rogers
